El Pit is the deepest (119m/391ft) sinkhole in Quintana Roo and is located in Parque Dos Ojos. The stairs leading down to the cenote are steep and narrow so watch your step!

80% of this massive pit is covered by a ceiling. The dancing light rays you see while descending down this deep pit are absolutely gorgeous. There is a halocline layer at 15m/50ft. At what seems like the bottom of El Pit, you’ll see tree branches protruding out of the thick cloud of hydrogen sulfide, similar to that of Angelita.

At around 98 feet towards the back of the massive chamber, you’ll find bones from the Pleistocene era with the label “INAH” (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia). Mayan pottery can also be found in this historic cenote.

Nicte-Ha translates to “Water Flower” and my goodness is this one stunning dive! This is the perfect cenote for photographers because of the nice lighting and beautiful lily pads. Frogkick is required in the cavern because the ceiling gets very low in certain sections and it’s easy to silt up the place.

Cenote Nicte-Ha is located in Parque Dos Ojos, 50 km south of Playa del Carmen
